PSG Victory March: A Historic Day for Paris – with Shadows

A City in a State of Emergency.

On June 1, 2025, Paris turned into a sea of red and blue. Over 110,000 fans streamed onto the Champs-Élysées to celebrate Paris Saint-Germain’s first Champions League title. After the impressive 5-0 victory against Inter Milan in Munich, the excitement was boundless.

The open double-decker bus with the players made its way through the cheering crowd to the Arc de Triomphe. Captain Marquinhos proudly presented the trophy, while coach Luis Enrique and star player Ousmane Dembélé were enthusiastically celebrated. The atmosphere was electrifying—a goosebumps moment for every soccer fan.

Presidential Reception at the Élysée Palace

After the parade, President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the team at the Élysée Palace. He praised the team’s “sublime performance” and emphasized the national significance of this success. He particularly highlighted the strategic brilliance of Luis Enrique, who managed to mold a young team into a powerful unit.

Celebrations at Parc des Princes

In the evening, the celebrations continued at the home stadium. A concert, light shows, and the official presentation of the trophy delighted the fans. Prominent guests like Novak Djokovic and Javier Pastore were also present. Calls for the Ballon d’Or for Dembélé echoed throughout the stadium—a sign of appreciation for his outstanding season.

Tragic incidents overshadow the joy

But not everything went peacefully. On the night before the parade, there were severe riots in several French cities. Two people lost their lives: a 17-year-old was stabbed to death in Dax, and a 23-year-old died in Paris after a traffic accident. Over 500 people were arrested nationwide, numerous injuries and considerable property damage were the result.

Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau sharply condemned the violence and called the rioters “barbarians.” He emphasized that such acts have nothing to do with the true spirit of PSG fans.

A milestone in club history

With the Champions League victory, PSG crowned an extraordinary season. In addition to the European title, the club also secured the championship in Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France win – a historic treble. Coach Luis Enrique succeeded in shaping a team that impressed not only through individual quality but above all through team unity.

A look into the future

The celebrations showed the immense significance of the success for the city and its residents. But the accompanying riots raise questions: How can it be ensured in the future that such festivities are not overshadowed by violence? A challenge equally for the club, city, and fans.

Despite everything, June 1, 2025 remains a day remembered when Paris was united in the sign of football – with all its highs and lows.
