In Narbonne, the previous maximum was 30.0°C, also from May 9, 2026, and it was now exceeded by 7.6°C. In Perpignan, the old record of 24.1°C, measured on May 11, 2026, was surpassed by 13.3°C.

These exceptional temperatures were confirmed by Météo-France, the French meteorological agency. The agency issued a warning regarding the potential health risks associated with such extreme temperatures, particularly for the elderly, people with chronic conditions, and children. It recommended avoiding sun exposure during the hottest hours of the day, especially between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., staying in the shade, and maintaining proper hydration.

The current weather conditions in Angoulême, Narbonne, and Perpignan remain characterized by high temperatures. In Angoulême, it is mostly sunny with a current temperature of 34°C. Narbonne is also sunny with 33°C, while in Perpignan the temperature is 35°C. Weather alerts are in effect for all three cities due to the extremely high temperatures.
