Saint-Ouen: Six school aftercare staff provisionally suspended after parents’ complaints

Saint-Ouen – 01.07.2026: In Saint-Ouen (Seine-Saint-Denis), six employees of the school aftercare program have been provisionally suspended. The trigger was several parental complaints about allegedly sexually disturbing content that children are said to have reported. According to consistent local reports, eleven notifications have been submitted to the public prosecutor’s office since the end of May; the allegations are currently under legal review. Authorities have not yet released specific information about the institutions involved or the number of children.

The municipality initiated organizational measures after the reports became known. The employees concerned were taken off duty to maintain operations at the schools and to secure possible evidence. According to statements from the town hall, the protection of the children is the priority; the suspensions do not constitute a presumption of guilt. At the same time, management and teams of the after-school (périscolaire) facilities were instructed to document incidents immediately and to designate contact points for parents.

Investigative responsibility lies with the competent public prosecutor’s office. In comparable proceedings the Brigade de Protection des Mineurs is often called in; it accompanies child-friendly interviews with specialized staff and analyzes digital material. According to the current status, authorities are examining whether criminal offenses have occurred or whether there are breaches of official duties. Personal details are being kept confidential until the preliminary review is completed to ensure the protection of minors.

In the neighborhood, parents describe feeling unsettled. They report that their children spoke in simple terms about clips they had seen. Families then collected statements, filed criminal complaints, and pushed for a swift clarification. Counseling centers recommend listening to children in a calm setting, avoiding suggestive questions, and passing on any information immediately to the police or the school. Schools have been urged to provide psychological support and to keep communication channels transparent.

Legally: a suspension is a provisional measure under employment law, not a finding of guilt. The presumption of innocence protects the accused until a final decision is reached. If investigators conclude that criminal offenses may have been committed, the public prosecutor’s office will decide on further steps up to a possible indictment. In parallel, the municipality may conduct disciplinary proceedings.

The situation remains tense. The municipality and the judiciary emphasize carefully reviewing reports and keeping parents regularly informed. In the short term, the priority is to secure reliable alternative care options, stabilize procedures in the facilities, and provide low-threshold support to affected families.
