After the death of Lyhanna, the Speaker of the National Assembly called for the inclusion of the "Law on Prevention of Gender-Based Violence and Sexual Violence" on the agenda of the National Assembly.

Paris – 09.06.2026: Following the tragic death of Lyhanna in Gers, Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the National Assembly, has called for the immediate inclusion of the “Law against Gender-Based Violence and Sexual Violence” on the agenda of the National Assembly. This cross-party bill, supported by more than one hundred deputies, aims to implement comprehensive measures to combat gender-based violence and sexual violence.

Deputy Céline Thiébault-Martinez submitted in November 2025, together with a broad parliamentary alliance, a bill comprising nearly 80 articles. This bill is based on 140 recommendations from the “Feminist Alliance for Comprehensive Legislation,” supported by many organizations.

Braun-Pivet emphasized that this issue goes beyond partisan political boundaries and is a national priority. She called on the President of the Republic to include this bill on the agenda of the upcoming extraordinary session of the National Assembly in July or September.

The bill includes, among other things, the establishment of specialized courts to handle cases of gender-based violence and sexual violence, the implementation of annual confidential interviews for children from kindergarten to detect early signs of violence, as well as banning practitioners convicted of sexual violence from working in professions involving contact with minors.

Braun-Pivet stressed the urgency of passing the law to ensure justice for victims and prevent future tragedies. She affirmed that the fight against gender-based violence and sexual violence must be carried out at all levels.
