Strasbourg – 06/07/2026: On the night of June 7, 2026, about 30 youths gathered in the center of Strasbourg after a call was spread on TikTok. The group destroyed two advertising boards and blocked tram traffic. Four minors aged between 13 and 17 were arrested and taken into custody. The police launched an investigation to clarify the origin of the call and the intent behind it.
The incident occurred around 8:15 PM at Place Homme de Fer and Rue du Vieux-Marché-aux-Vins. The youths, mostly minors, responded to a call that was spread on TikTok. Within less than half an hour, they caused significant damage by destroying two advertising boards and disrupting tram traffic.
The police responded quickly and deployed about 30 officers from various units to bring the situation under control. No tear gas was used during the operation. The four arrested youths were taken into custody, and an investigation was launched to clarify the origin of the call and the purpose behind it.
The incident has raised questions about the role of social media in organizing such actions. The police emphasized the need to monitor the spread of such calls and respond quickly to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This incident is not the first of its kind in Strasbourg. Already on May 30, 2026, after Paris Saint-Germain’s victory in the Champions League, riots occurred in the city center, damaging and looting stores. Nine people, including seven minors, were arrested at that time.
The Strasbourg city administration strongly condemned the recent incidents and emphasized that such actions will not be tolerated. Mayor Catherine Trautmann stated that the city pursues a zero-tolerance policy regarding violence and vandalism and will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of citizens.
The investigations into the current incidents are ongoing. The police are examining whether there are connections to similar incidents in other cities and whether coordinated actions via social media played a role.
The events highlight the challenges the police face in combating vandalism and violence by youths in the era of social media. It remains to be seen what measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure safety in cities.
