Ted Lasso returns to Richmond with a women’s team

Paris – August 5, 2026: After a three-year break, the comedy series Ted Lasso has returned to Apple TV with a fourth season. The main character is taking on a new assignment: Ted Lasso takes charge of a women’s team playing in the second division at the fictional English club AFC Richmond. To mark the launch, Apple released one episode this Wednesday. The remaining episodes are scheduled to be released every Wednesday through October 7.

The change of team alters the series’ sporting perspective without abandoning its familiar setting. In its first three seasons, Ted Lasso focused primarily on the club’s men’s team and an American football coach who initially arrives in Richmond with no experience of English football. The camera now turns to a different squad, a lower division and new structures within the club. This setup gives the series an opportunity to continue its established themes of solidarity, competition and leadership responsibility under changed circumstances.

Jason Sudeikis once again plays the title role and also serves as an executive producer. Several key cast members from the first seasons are also returning, including Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift. New additions to the cast include Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely. The roles they will take on around the women’s team and the club are likely to become clear as the season unfolds.

Apple has announced ten episodes. The weekly schedule will therefore run for just over two months, following the release model of the earlier seasons. The first three seasons remain available worldwide through the streaming service. Apple had announced the return in April; the third season was released in 2023.

Behind the camera, the production is also relying on continuity. Jack Burditt serves as an executive producer. Sudeikis shares that role with, among others, Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee and Bill Wrubel. According to Apple, Brett Goldstein is once again involved as a writer and executive producer, while Leann Bowen is also part of the production team.

Ted Lasso was developed by Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Joe Kelly and Brendan Hunt and is based on characters and a format from NBC Sports. The series is produced by Doozer Productions together with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television. Its first two seasons won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series in consecutive years. The fourth season builds on that success, while placing a distinctly changed sporting emphasis on AFC Richmond’s women’s team.
