Metz – 09.06.2026: Noahm M., 19 years old and from Talange, died on June 2 at Mercy Hospital in Metz. The incident followed a serious altercation on the night of May 29 to 30, 2026, at Place de la République. Two men, a 27-year-old uncle and his 20-year-old nephew, were arrested on June 1 and charged with attempted murder as well as bodily harm resulting in death. A third suspect, 19 years old, was released after questioning.
The investigations are partly focused on a possible homophobic motive behind the act. Metz prosecutor David Touvet has stated so far that there is no concrete evidence supporting this. At the same time, witness statements report repeated homophobic insults directed at Noahm, including terms such as “pedophile” and “faggot.” The victim was allegedly targeted because of his effeminate appearance and presumed sexual orientation.
On the night of the attack, Noahm encountered another youth group listening to music with friends. After a brief verbal exchange, the situation quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. Noahm was struck multiple times in the head. His 21-year-old cousin, who tried to intervene, also sustained facial injuries. Noahm was admitted to the hospital and was found dead four days later due to the injuries.
The investigations continue, and further findings could lead to an adjustment of the charges. The two main suspects, previously unknown to the police, face possible life imprisonment—depending on the outcome of the trial.
On June 2, about 250 people gathered in Metz for a memorial event for Noahm. The organizations Couleurs Gaies and Stop Homophobie called for this protest in order to demonstrate against violence and discrimination toward the LGBTQIA+ community.
The organization SOS Homophobie sharply condemned the act, describing it as “a double violence” that must not be tolerated today. They call for the official acknowledgment of a homophobic motive to do justice to the victim and prevent silencing victims of LGBTI-phobia.
In an open letter to the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, the parliamentary group La France insoumise requested a minute of silence in honor of Noahm. The deputies emphasized that the Republic cannot ignore Noahm’s death and reiterated that homophobia remains a deadly danger in France.
The authorities are continuing investigations to conclusively clarify the circumstances of the attack as well as the motive. It will be ensured that all relevant factors are carefully examined to guarantee justice for Noahm.
