Tour de France: SNCF uses a special TGV for transferring teams from the Alps to Paris

Paris – 29.05.2026: For the first time in the history of the Tour de France, the French national railway SNCF is providing a special TGV train used exclusively for the transfer of teams and riders from the Alps to the Paris region. This offer was created to ensure smooth, fast, and comfortable transportation during the international cycling competition. The decision was made after consultations with the event organizers known as the “Grande Boucle”.

Also in 2026, the Tour de France extends over numerous challenging stages in the Alps, which are physically very demanding. After these mountain stages, it is necessary to transfer the athletes, coaches, and staff members to the metropolitan Paris region to efficiently face further stages and make the best use of rest days. The special TGV offered aims to guarantee a fast connection with a reduced number of transfers.

The SNCF emphasized that the special train offers tailored conditions for the teams, such as space for bicycles, equipment, and ample spaces to relax before the upcoming competitions. This service significantly improves logistics and should contribute to the overall performance of the riders. From an organizational viewpoint, it is an innovation in cycling and could become a model for the future.

Previously, team transport was often entrusted to regular trains or private cars, resulting in lost time and less comfort. The new solution has been developed especially with the tight schedule of the Tour de France in mind, to avoid delays in the recovery and preparation of athletes. The SNCF works closely with the organizer ASO (Amaury Sport Organisation) in this regard.

Additionally, this new offer is expected to bring logistical advantages also for media representatives and accompanying persons, without interfering with regular rail traffic. The organization of these special trains is part of efforts aimed at maintaining the international prestige of the Tour de France and offering the teams the best possible conditions.

The measure has been welcomed positively by athletes and team directors, who have highlighted the better organization and greater comfort. At the same time, the initiative also aligns with sustainability, since rail transport represents a more ecological alternative compared to car or bus travel, reducing CO2 emissions during the race.
