Three women injured in a knife attack at Porte de Clichy

Paris – 27/07/2026: Three women were injured in a knife attack on Monday morning in the Porte de Clichy area, in the 17th arrondissement. According to the Paris Police Prefecture, the attack took place at around 11:30 a.m. in the northwest of the capital. The alleged attacker was arrested shortly afterwards. Emergency services temporarily cordoned off the immediate area of the attack.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said after the Council of Ministers that the man attacked the women with two kitchen knives. The victims are women aged 19, 24 and 36. Two of them suffered serious injuries. Rescue teams treated all three women and took them to hospitals. No further details about their condition were available on Monday evening.

The Prefecture stated that the suspect was arrested quickly. According to media reports, an off-duty officer from the Paris Police Prefecture took part in the arrest. The authorities initially provided no information about the identity, possible background or health condition of the person arrested. It was also unclear whether he had already responded to the allegations.

The motive remained unknown by nightfall. Investigators must now reconstruct the course of events and determine whether the man deliberately chose his victims. The Porte de Clichy is located on an important transport route between Paris and the adjacent northwestern suburbs. In this densely built-up district, metro, tram and bus connections converge; the Paris courthouse and numerous offices are also nearby. The police cordon temporarily affected traffic and the movement of pedestrians and residents in the vicinity on Monday.

The subsequent investigation is being handled by the competent police and judicial authorities in Paris. Among other things, it will have to determine where the knives used came from, how the suspect moved before and after the attack, and whether there are further witnesses or recordings that can be used.
