Two Further Complaints Against Patrick Bruel Over Alleged Sexual Offences

Paris – 28 July 2026: Two further complaints alleging sexual offences have been filed against French singer and actor Patrick Bruel. According to reporting by Mediapart, also covered by Franceinfo, the complaints were filed on 16 and 23 July. One concerns an allegation of rape in 1994, while the other concerns an allegation of sexual assault in 2005.

The first complaint was filed by a woman who worked as a receptionist at a hotel in Toulouse in 1994 and was 19 years old at the time. According to her account, a rape occurred during Bruel’s stay at the hotel. Her account is the subject of the complaint; the allegation has not been established in court.

The second woman, an American-Scottish actress, accuses Bruel of sexual assault on the sidelines of filming for the movie “O Jerusalem” in Greece. According to the reports, she was 28 years old at the time in question. This account has likewise not yet been the subject of a known court decision.

According to the available information, the alleged acts are considered time-barred. They are therefore unlikely to be subject to criminal prosecution. A complaint may nevertheless trigger official reviews and be relevant to the assessment of other statements or proceedings. It was initially not officially known whether, and in what form, the new information would be incorporated into investigations already underway.

Bruel has his legal counsel firmly deny the allegations. Should the judiciary examine the accusations, he will comment within the appropriate framework, they said. He is presumed innocent. The two complaints add to earlier public allegations and proceedings concerning different periods.

From a legal perspective, a distinction must be made between filing a complaint, opening an investigation and bringing charges. A complaint initially records the suspicion described. The competent authorities then examine, among other things, the location of the alleged offence, the applicable legal system, potential evidence and the statute of limitations. The fact that one of the alleged assaults is said to have taken place in Greece may also raise questions of jurisdiction.

The considerable passage of time regularly complicates the examination of such allegations: memories must be assessed, potential witnesses located and any surviving documents secured. At the same time, the procedural rights of the accused remain fully intact. What is established so far is that both women submitted their allegations to the authorities in July 2026 and that Patrick Bruel emphatically denies them.
