A 28-year-old man close to the far left indicted on suspicion of terrorism

Paris – 11 July 2026: The Paris judiciary has placed a 28-year-old man under formal investigation on suspicion of terrorist criminal association. According to information from sources close to the investigation, the suspect is involved in what is known as the far-left movement. After appearing before investigating judges, he was placed under judicial supervision. He therefore remains free, but must comply with strict obligations, such as regular check-ins, contact bans and possible restrictions on residence or carrying weapons. No detention order was issued.

The investigation is being conducted by the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office in Paris, with the support of the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI). The proceedings were opened following information indicating a possible plan for violent acts targeting members of the security forces. In cases of suspected terrorism, the Paris judiciary regularly relies on the specialized structure of the anti-terrorism court. Cooperation between the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office, investigating judges and the DGSI aims, on the one hand, to detect preparations for attacks early and, on the other, to ensure the preservation of evidence for a possible trial.
