G7 Summit in Évian: Focus on Security Measures and Agreement with Iran

Évian-les-Bains – 15.06.2026: From June 15 to 17, 2026, the leaders of the seven major industrialized nations meet for the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, France. Amid international tensions, U.S. President Donald Trump is expected, who together with the other heads of state and government will discuss important global conflicts, including the situation in the Middle East and the reassessment of relations with Iran.

Due to the importance of the summit, French and Swiss authorities have implemented extensive security measures. Approximately 16,000 security forces have been mobilized in total, including about 10,000 police officers responsible for investigations, crime fighting, and ensuring public safety. Entry is controlled via QR codes and in a security perimeter of 1,670 square kilometers strict access restrictions apply. The high level of security aims particularly to prevent possible acts of sabotage, cyber attacks, and unrest, feared as a consequence of the tense political situation.

Already on June 14, tens of thousands of people demonstrated in Geneva for peace and global justice. While most protesters remained peaceful, a group of about 600 activists of the so-called Black Bloc caused unrest. This escalated when the demonstrators set fire to a vehicle and damaged the windows of a bank building. The police used tear gas and water cannons to contain the unrest.

A central point on the agenda is the recently reached agreement between the United States and Iran, aimed at a de-escalation of diplomatic tensions and especially at limiting Iran’s nuclear activities. The agreement was mediated by Pakistan, which has planned technical talks within the next 60 days, the details of which are still open. European leaders are watching developments with cautious optimism.

President Trump approaches the summit with renewed momentum, after having faced criticism in the past for lack of coordination with allies. The international community is awaiting concrete progress in various crises, including the conflict in Ukraine and tensions in the Gaza Strip. Additionally, global challenges such as the regulation of artificial intelligence and issues of economic stability will be central to the consultations.

The security situation remains considered tense, as further demonstrations are expected. The authorities of France and Switzerland are working closely to ensure the safety of the summit participants and the population.

The G7 summit in Évian represents a significant platform where the major industrialized nations coordinate their strategies to address the most urgent global problems. The results of the discussions are awaited with great interest worldwide, as they could have potential political and economic repercussions of wide scope.
