Victor Wembanyama promotes reading enjoyment in San Antonio

San Antonio – 06/08/2026: Amidst the exciting NBA Finals series between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks, the city of San Antonio has launched a remarkable initiative to promote the reading culture. The San Antonio Public Library has started a program focused on the books read by the French basketball player Victor Wembanyama.

Wembanyama, the 22-year-old center of the Spurs, has not only made a name for himself with his impressive performances on the basketball court but also through his love of literature. In interviews, he has repeatedly emphasized how important books are for his personal development. The library wants to use this passion primarily to inspire young fans.

The program includes a selection of books that Wembanyama has recommended in the past or read himself. In addition, lectures and discussions about these works are organized, featuring local authors and literary critics. The goal is to strengthen the connection between sports and culture and to offer the residents of San Antonio new perspectives.

The response to the initiative has been overwhelming. Already in the first days after the announcement, the library saw an increase in visitor numbers and higher demand for the recommended books. Especially young people show great interest and seize the opportunity to learn more about the literary preferences of their idol.

Following the promotion of reading, Wembanyama has also supported other social projects in San Antonio. He is committed to programs that promote education and equal opportunities and uses his fame to bring about positive changes in the community.

The connection between Wembanyama and the city of San Antonio goes beyond basketball. His initiative for promoting reading shows how athletes can use their platform to give cultural and social impulses. In a time when digital media dominate, this program reminds us of how valuable and enriching the printed word can be.

The San Antonio Public Library plans to further expand the program in the coming months and organize more events related to Wembanyama’s literature. In addition, partnerships will be established with schools and other educational institutions to anchor the promotion of reading even more broadly.

While the Spurs are competing for the title in the NBA Finals, the city of San Antonio shows that true champions are not only found on the playing field but also in promoting education and culture.
