Victor Wembanyama fuels passion for reading in San Antonio

San Antonio – 08.06.2026: Amid the dramatic NBA Finals series between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks, the city of San Antonio launched a notable initiative to promote a reading culture. The San Antonio Public Library unveiled a program focused on books that French basketball star Victor Wembanyama enjoys reading.

Wembanyama, the Spurs’ 22-year-old center, has made a name for himself not only through impressive performances on the basketball court but also through his passion for literature. In interviews, he has repeatedly emphasized the importance of books to his personal development. The library has leveraged this passion to particularly inspire young fans.

The program includes a selection of books that Wembanyama has introduced or read. In addition, reading sessions and discussions related to these works are organized with the participation of local authors and literary critics. The aim is to strengthen the connection between sports and culture while broadening perspectives for the San Antonio community.

The response to this initiative has been very positive. Within days of the announcement, the library recorded an increase in visitors and demand to borrow the recommended books. Young people, in particular, have shown great interest and taken the opportunity to learn more about their idol’s literary tastes.

Alongside promoting a reading culture, Wembanyama also supports many other social projects in San Antonio. He participates in programs that enhance education and equal opportunity, using his influence to create positive change for the community.

The link between Wembanyama and the city of San Antonio goes beyond basketball. His reading-promotion initiative shows that athletes can use their platform to create cultural and social impact. In an era dominated by digital media, this program reminds us of the precious and meaningful value of the written word on paper.

The San Antonio Public Library plans to expand the program in the coming months and host additional events related to Wembanyama’s literary interests. Partnerships with schools and other educational institutions will also be established to encourage a broader reading culture.

While the Spurs fight for the NBA Finals title, the city of San Antonio demonstrates that true champions are not only on the playing field but also in promoting education and culture.
