Cristiane Commeau Murder Case: Anonymous Letter Leads to Reopening of Investigation

Chassieu – 13.06.2026: More than two decades after the violent death of Cristiane Commeau near Lyon, there are new developments in the case. The 54-year-old woman disappeared without a trace from her apartment in Chassieu in October 2004. It was not until February 2005 that her body was found in a forest near Niévroz, Ain province. Investigations showed that she had been shot twice in the neck. Despite numerous tests, the perpetrator and motive remained a mystery for a long time.

At the end of 2025, two women in Voiron, about 70 km from Chassieu, received anonymous letters. These letters contained excerpts from the “San-Antonio” series along with handwritten notes referring to important facts and events in Cristiane Commeau’s life. One of the messages read: “What are you doing on Monday, September 30?” These clues led authorities to suspect that the sender had personal information about the victim.

Based on these new traces, the Paris Prosecutor’s Office in Nanterre, which has a department specializing in unsolved cases, reopened the cold case in autumn 2025. Previously, the case had been suspended in 2015. Investigators hope that with this new information they can identify the perpetrator.

In June 2026, the case was publicized again on television: In the program “Appel à témoins” on channel M6, viewers were called upon to provide relevant clues to clarify the murder case of Cristiane Commeau. Especially notable were the anonymous letters suggesting a connection between the sender and the victim.

The family of Cristiane Commeau expressed relief that the investigation was reopened. They have long demanded the truth to be clarified and justice to be served in the case. Relatives appealed to the community to provide information to help solve the case.

Although many years of waiting and difficult investigations have passed, this murder case remains unsolved. Investigators continue to rely on the public’s assistance and potential new clues to shed light on the mysterious case. The Cristiane Commeau case remains a central concern for the French justice system and the family involved.

The role of the anonymous letters with literary references is an unusual aspect that has reignited public interest in the case. Whether these clues will help identify the perpetrator will be clarified in the coming months.
