Taradeau – 19/07/2026: The wildfire that broke out on Sunday in Taradeau, in the Var department, has spread toward the neighboring municipality of Les Arcs, according to Prefect Simon Babre. The fire crossed a section and thus reached another area. Emergency crews are focusing on slowing its spread and securing threatened areas. According to the prefecture, around 220 firefighters are deployed. They are being supported by about one hundred vehicles. In addition, two Canadair water-bombing aircraft, three firefighting helicopters and a Civil Protection Dash aircraft have been mobilized. The combination of ground crews and air assets is intended to enable firefighters to tackle the flames at several locations simultaneously and specifically protect particularly vulnerable areas.
The fire’s movement toward Les Arcs illustrates the highly dynamic nature of the situation. In vegetation fires, sparks and burning material can be carried over obstacles and ignite new fire fronts. For the incident command, this means continuously monitoring the edge of the fire and rapidly deploying personnel wherever further spread is threatened.
