Metz: Suspected Homophobic Crime – La France insoumise Calls for a Moment of Silence in the National Assembly for Victim Noahm

Metz – 06/05/2026: On June 2, 2026, 19-year-old Noahm was officially declared dead after being the victim of a severe physical attack three days earlier. Investigations indicate a possible homophobic motivated crime. Two men, aged 20 and 27, have been arrested and are in custody.

The incident occurred during the night of May 29 to 30, 2026, when Noahm was leaving Place de la République in Metz with friends. According to witness reports, he was attacked by the perpetrators due to his appearance, especially his makeup and effeminate style. Homophobic insults were also reportedly made during the confrontation.

The political movement La France insoumise responded immediately to the incident. Charlotte Leduc, a representative of the movement in Metz, told ICI Lorraine: “It is urgently necessary to show a clear rejection of such crimes. A moment of silence in the National Assembly would emphasize that the issue is being taken seriously.” La France insoumise is therefore calling for an official minute of remembrance for Noahm in the National Assembly to raise awareness for the rights and protection of LGBTQI+ people.

On June 2, a memorial event in honor of Noahm was held in Metz, organized by the LGBTQI+ organization Couleurs Gaies. This event aimed to send a message against the ongoing violence and hatred towards LGBTQI+ individuals.

Investigations are ongoing to clearly determine the exact course of events and motive. Authorities emphasize that the case is being treated with the highest priority. It is being examined whether the act will be officially classified as homophobic motivated, which could affect possible legal consequences regarding hate crimes.

This case highlights the ongoing challenges in the fight against LGBTI+ hostility in France. The annual report by SOS Homophobie documents a total of 1,771 reported cases of LGBTI+ hostility in 2026, a record number also acknowledged by official bodies. Such figures indicate the urgent need for governmental and societal measures to enhance protection and acceptance.

The call for a moment of silence in the National Assembly represents the effort of political parties and social groups to stand against discrimination and violence. The violent death of Noahm should not be forgotten and continues to raise awareness about protecting minority rights in France.

With ongoing investigations and public engagement, the debate on equality, security, and social cohesion is meant to be further advanced.
