Metz: Suspect of homophobic crime – La France insoumise demands a minute of silence in the National Assembly for victim Noahm

Metz – 06/05/2026: In Metz, 19-year-old Noahm was officially declared dead on June 2, 2026, after having fallen victim to a severe physical assault three days earlier. Investigations point to a possible homophobic crime. Two men aged 20 and 27 were arrested and are in pre-trial detention.

The act took place during the night of May 29 to 30, 2026, when Noahm was leaving Place de la République in Metz with friends. According to witnesses, he was attacked by the perpetrators because of his appearance, especially his makeup and effeminate look. Homophobic slurs were also reportedly used during the confrontation.

The political movement La France insoumise responded immediately to this incident. Charlotte Leduc, representative of the movement in Metz, stated to ICI Lorraine: “It is urgently necessary to clearly reject such crimes. A moment of silence in the National Assembly would emphasize that the problem is taken seriously.” La France insoumise therefore demands an official minute of remembrance for Noahm in the National Assembly to raise awareness for the rights and protection of LGBTQI+ persons.

On June 2, a memorial gathering was held in Metz in honor of Noahm, organized by the LGBTQI+ organization Couleurs Gaies. The purpose of this gathering was to send a signal against the ongoing violence and hatred against LGBTQI+ people.

The investigations are still ongoing to clarify the exact circumstances and motive. Authorities emphasize that they are treating the case with the highest priority. It is being investigated whether the act will officially be classified as motivated by homophobia, which could have criminal consequences under hate crime legislation.

This case illustrates the ongoing challenges in the fight against LGBTI+ hostility in France. The annual report from SOS Homophobie documents a total of 1,771 reported cases of LGBTI+ hostility in 2026, a record number also recognized by official agencies. Such figures demonstrate the urgent need for governmental and societal measures for more protection and acceptance.

The demand for a minute of silence in the National Assembly represents the commitment of political parties and social groups to make a statement against discrimination and violence. The violent death of Noahm must not be forgotten and further raises awareness for the protection of minority rights in France.

With ongoing investigations and public involvement, the debate on equality, security, and social cohesion must be further promoted.
