Alexander Zverev beat Quentin Halys in the third set at Roland-Garros

Paris – 29.05.2026: In the third round of the men’s singles at Roland-Garros, German tennis player Alexander Zverev faced Frenchman Quentin Halys. The match on Court Philippe-Chatrier turned into an intense duel before an enthusiastic crowd, which Zverev ultimately won 6–4, 6–3, 5–7 and 6–2, allowing him to qualify for the round of 16.

Zverev, currently No. 3 in the ATP rankings and the tournament’s No. 2 seed, delivered an overall convincing performance. Despite the surprising loss of the third set, the 29-year-old remained in control of his game. Halys, the home player ranked 90th in the world, seized the opportunity to take the set with a solid, combative performance, winning 7–5. However, that was not enough to permanently disrupt Zverev’s rhythm.

In the first set, Zverev secured an early break which he maintained confidently to finish 6–4. He then also controlled the second set, winning it 6–3. In the third set, Halys managed to make the decisive break to take the set. In the fourth and final set, Zverev accelerated again, benefited from several strong service games and won the set clearly 6–2.

With this victory, Zverev will face Dutchman Jesper de Jong in the round of 16. For Halys, this elimination means the end of his run at Roland-Garros, but his performance and the capture of a set against a top player constitute a positive outcome. The Frenchman thus gains valuable experience on the Grand Slam stage.

On the sidelines of this duel, 19-year-old Brazilian João Fonseca produced one of the biggest upsets of the tournament by defeating 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic in five sets. Fonseca prevailed 4–6, 4–6, 6–3, 7–5 and 7–5, thus inscribing his name in history.

The tournament conditions in Paris posed an additional challenge: with temperatures reaching up to 33 degrees Celsius, several players suffered from the heat. Among them, current world No. 1 Jannik Sinner had to retire early from his match against Argentine Juan Manuel Cerúndolo. This climate represents an additional mental and physical burden.

Roland-Garros therefore remains extremely exciting this year thanks to unexpected turnarounds and strong performances from outsiders. In the coming days, more spectacular matchups are expected that will shape the fight for the title.
