NBA Finals: New York Knicks win second game against Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs

San Antonio – 06/06/2026: The NBA Finals series between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs became dramatic in the second game. The Knicks secured a 108-105 road victory, taking a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. French talent Victor Wembanyama played a dominant role for the Spurs, scoring 29 points, including as many as 22 in the second half. Despite this outstanding performance, luck did not smile on him in the final minutes.

Wembanyama showed all his strength in front of the home crowd, controlling the game as a big center on both offense and defense and repeatedly creating decisive scoring opportunities. However, in the final seconds, the 2.23-meter French player lost the ball at a crucial moment, allowing the Knicks to maintain possession and close out the game without conceding any further points. Wembanyama’s potential game-winning final shot narrowly missed the rim.

The Knicks displayed great tactical discipline in San Antonio, benefiting from a solid defense that limited New York’s rising young star. At the same time, they relied on a balanced offense led by the experienced Julius Randle, who scored 26 points. The close score and dramatic final stretch reflected the balance and tension of this Finals series.

Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau praised his team’s mental strength, as it remained calm and prevailed in decisive moments despite the Spurs’ home-court advantage. “We knew Victor is an extraordinary player, but we responded as a collective and won the important balls,” Thibodeau said after the game.

Wembanyama, who is regarded as the hope of French basketball, therefore remains the focus of fans and experts. In the next game in New York, the Spurs will have the opportunity to narrow the gap in the series and reopen the race for the championship. So far, the series has been an exciting clash between rising young talents and experienced veterans.

The NBA Finals series will now continue with Game 3 in New York, where the arena will be filled with expectations of the Knicks’ first home victory. Spectacular performances and basketball at the highest level are guaranteed, as is the question of whether Wembanyama can assert himself as the leading figure in decisive moments or whether the Knicks will continue to extend their advantage.

The matchup in the world’s strongest basketball league is now considered one of the most exciting Finals series in recent years, partly thanks to the closely balanced contest and the extraordinary performances of the French center. The entire basketball world is watching the upcoming games of this dramatic series with great interest.
